The Peoples' Agenda Blog Launched

Hello All

We have finally launched our own blog where we can keep you posted of all the developments in the world of the Sustainable Cummunity Investment Programme, better known as SCIP.

A lot has been happening and there are many new things on the horizon, so stay tuned, visit and leave your contributions and valuable advice to those trying to make a difference to the poor and struggling communities in South Africa and out blighted region.

The spirit of Dr Norman Reynolds who had the great vision and did all the foundation writing that gave initially the Community Investedment Programme (CIP) its head under the direction of The Peoples Agenda. (http://www.thepeoplesagenda.co.za)  The Peolples Agenda has now picked up many partners and been joined by many dediacted and innovated  practitioners and organisations.  So it is with great joy that we start this blog for a community that is growing and will do more so in the coming years as we contribute tto building the Economic Democracy that our country so desparately needs, even more so as the World spirals in its credit crunch as the solution now lies in being local.

As Norman used to say the way forward for the 21st Century is "to think gobally, but act locally".  So start acting locally

  1. Hello,

    Great work Edward!
I'm Looking forward to share thoughts, ideas and insights on this fascinating program that SCIP really is! And will continue to be as I to believe in its potential to build a brighter future for all South Africans.

To introduce myself for future responds to any kind of post, I am Wim Troosters, working for Broederlijk Delen, which is a Belgian NGO that has fully embraced SCIP and is walking alongside the People's Agenda to explore the program's full potential! I'm currently advising 2 communities in KZN on SCIP, one being Tsakane, in Ladysmith and the other Nositha in Margate.

I hope we will have a rapidly growing list of 'bloggers' to create a lively debate for the sake of all South Africans!

    Regards!

    Wim

  2. Hello Edward,

I look forward to hearing about the progress of the CIP or SCIP as its now known. My name is Brian Liggett and I was a founding member of the KZN CIP trust in 2005. I was working for a NGO in Margate called Give a Child a Family before returning home to Ireland at the end of 2006. I look forward to blogging about this great community development programme. Wim what stage are you at in KwaNositha?

  3. Hi Brain,

although we have never met, I heard a great deal about you! Your great work @ Ugu-organics still lives on...

Regarding Nositha, we have introduced the program at the end of August with an Imobizo (traditional meeting) and up till today we are still in the introduction phase. We ran several workshops and performed a rather fascinating baseline study (If you want the results, let me know!). A first group of people has been trained on Org. gardening and are working hard on their plots...We are also busy strengthening the people's training skills so they can start running their own training program... focus is on gardening but can expand according to people's needs and desires.

Lot's of stuff... major challenge we face at the moment is keeping the momentum going after the introduction and to increase the involvement to make the program grow!

Keep well, will be in touch!

    Wim
